Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has said that the United States wants to make Pakistan part of its proxy war but the latter will never do so. The minister expressed these views while speaking here on the floor of the National Assembly on Friday.
"Pakistan will not protect the interests of any other power. Today, foreign powers want Pakistan to protect their interests in Afghanistan," he said. "We will not protect any other power but will safeguard only our own interests," he asserted. Asif said Pakistan believes in a functioning relationship with the US based on mutual respect and trust, which is in the interest of the region.
He said, "Pakistan has become target of foreign powers and they want to push it in their activities. Today, the Muslim countries are being destroyed under a plan. They are destroying Libya, Syria and others while the tool of destruction and killing is in the hands of the rulers of Muslim countries. The infrastructure of Iraq, Syria, Libya and other Muslim countries has been destroyed. It is war of getting power."
"The enemy has crossed the ocean and is fomenting conflict in Syria, Afghanistan and other states while leaders of our Muslim countries facilitate the enemy," the foreign minister claimed.
Asif said the disputes in Syria, Iraq, Libya, Yemen and other Muslim countries are part of "regime change" campaign. He said that 1.4 million people were killed in Iraq and 700,000 in Syria.
"I do not support dictatorships. But people in Syria and Iraq had free education and health facilities and peace before these war began," he said. The minister asked who brought Daesh from Iraq to Afghanistan. The terrorist outfit had not been wiped out but had only changed its address, he said.
He said the 'superpower' was in Afghanistan and its 43 percent of the area was occupied by the Taliban. He said Pakistan did not take part in the Yemen war, adding that it wants Iran and Saudi Arabia to end their differences.
The minister said, "In the past our ruler [General Pervez Musharaf (retd)] compromised to protect personal interest. We fought a 'made in America' Jihad and created Jihadis. What have we done with ourselves," the minister said. He said that after 9/11, if Pakistan had not succumbed to the US pressure, the war wouldn't have entered the country. "We had waged Jihad for the interest of the US. We repeated this mistake after 9/11," he said.
The foreign minister said Pakistan rulers made compromises for their own vested interests instead of protecting interests of the country.
He lamented the lack of unity among Muslim Ummah and policies of Muslim rulers, saying the Ummah is on the brink of destruction. The minister asked, "Is there any unity left among the Muslim countries?"
While responding to Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl) Emir Maualan Fazlur Rehman, the minister said that strict action would be taken against the Pakistani representative who did not vote in Human Right Council of United Nations (UN) against the war and cruelty in Syria. "Parliament will impeach this representative," he said.
Earlier, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that according to a report, more than 400,000 people had been killed in Syria and 10 million people had become homeless.
He said there were eight members of Muslim countries in Human Right Council of United Nations but two Muslim countries including Pakistan did not vote against war in Syria. He said Parliament should pass a resolution against the cruelty and war in Syria.
Dr Shireen Mazari of PTI, Sheikh Salahuddin of MQM-Pakistan and Shah Ji Gul Afridi from FATA also supported the views of Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
Afterward, Junaid Akbar pointed out quorum and Deputy Speaker Murtaza Javed Abbais adjourned the House till 5:00pm Monday due to lack of quorum.
