A parliamentary panel Monday instructed Ministry of Interior to complete its ongoing projects on priority basis and also asked Ministry of Finance for timely release of funds required for these projects. The National Assembly Standing Committee on Interior which met with Rana Shamim Ahmed Khan in the chair was given a briefing by Secretary Interior Arshad Mirza about ongoing projects.
The committee approved PSDP for financial year 2018-19 and also recommended that ongoing projects should be given priority. The committee also recommended that the Ministry of Finance should timely release funds for completion of ongoing projects. The committee also unanimously confirmed minutes of its previous meeting held on February 14, 2018. The concerned department informed the committee that the recommendations made in its previous meetings have been implemented.
The committee examined 'The Pakistan Penal Code (Amendment) Bill, 2017' (Insertion of new sections 167-A & 344-A, Act XLV of 1860), moved by MNA Sajid Ahmed. However, the committee decided not to recommend the Bill. The panel also examined 'The Islamabad Birthing Center and Hospital Maternity Services Bill, 2017' moved by Naeema Kishwer Khan and the West Pakistan Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Bill, 2017' moved by Aisha Syed. Both the bills were deferred till the next meeting.
The committee also constituted a subcommittee under the convenership of Nawab Yousuf Talpur to deliberate upon two bills, 'The Prevention and Control of Human Trafficking (Amendment) Bill, 2017' (sections 2 and 3), moved by Nafeesa Inyatullah Khan Khattak, and 'The Trafficking in Persons Bill, 2017' moved by Babar Nawaz Khan. The meeting was attended by Syed Iftikhar-ul-Hassan, Nawab Yousuf Talpur, Kanwar Naveed Jameel, Sheikh Salahuddin, Sher Akbar Khan, Dr Arif Alvi, Naeema Kishwer Khan, Babar Nawaz Khan, Aisha Syed, Nafeesa Inyatullah Khan Khattak.
