The Ministry for Human Rights on Monday proposed to include the issue of child abuse in curricula and schools may conduct teachers' trainings on protection of children from abuse in a bid to bring the menace to an end. A meeting of the Special Committee on Child Abuse was held under the chairmanship of Marriyum Aurangzeb, State Minister for Information and Broadcasting.
The director general Ministry for Human Rights informed the panel that to effectively coordinate, monitor and promote the rights of the child, the National Commission on the Rights of the Child Act, 2017 has been promulgated. The MD Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board (PCTB), Lahore, briefed about steps taken by the provincial government of Punjab regarding educating parents, children and community regarding child protection.
The chairwoman of the special committee lauded the work done by the PCTB Lahore and Punjab provincial government, which are taking concrete measures to eradicate the menace of child abuse. The committee recommended implementation of laws and speedy processing of the cases for punishing the culprits. It was also recommended that Inspectors General of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police shall be directed to brief the committee regarding the recent child abuse cases in the next meeting.
