How unfortunate it is that even civil service officers have to lodge protest under the extensive media glare following the arrest of Lahore Development Authority Chairman Ahad Cheema. Although Cheema has been accused of misusing authority to award a contract of the Ashiana-e-Iqbal project of approximately Rs 14 billion to Lahore Casa Developers, a joint-venture which was ineligible for the contract, and receiving illegal gratification in the form of a 32-kanal land valuing Rs 30.09 million approximately from the owners of Paragon City (Pvt) Ltd., the national Accountability Bureau seems to have shown some unholy haste.
This action too has contributed to a widely-held perception that the Sharifs are the unjust target of anti-graft body.
