Pakistan's seafood export continues to grow to $229.479 million in July-Jan 2017-18 that is 9 percent higher as compared to corresponding period during preceding year, which fishermen linked to a better landing of catch. Increase in seafood export comes to the tune of $18.825 million in July-Jan 2017-18 as it was $210.654 million in July-Jan 2016-17, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics indicates.
Fishermen say the catch has grown this fiscal year that resulted in a higher export of seafood. Warming weather, they say, will also help improve the landing further in coming months. Pakistan exported 88,625 metric tons of seafood in July-Jan 2017-18, that is 14 percent higher or 10827 metric tons, from 77,798 metric tons in July-Jan 2016-17. In January 2018, seafood export grew by 7 percent or $1.804 million to $29.012 million from $27.208 million in Jan 2017. Seafood export volume went up by 3 percent or 320 metric tons to 11,235 metric tons in January 2018 as compared to 10,915 metric tons in Jan 2017.
