Advising Nawaz Sharif and ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) to accept the Supreme Court's decision in letter and spirit, Emir Jamaat-e-Islami Sirajul Haq has said that the country cannot afford any mishap or emergency situation. Talking to media persons here on Thursday, Sirajul Haq said that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should accept the Supreme Court's fresh decision, saying the former prime minister should have set an example by accepting the apex court's decision from the very beginning and should not have challenged his disqualification on the GT Road.
He said that Nawaz Sharif once had advised PPP leader Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani to accept his disqualification by the Supreme Court, and now it is the time that he should do this himself. He said that on the disqualification of Yousuf Raza Gilani, Nawaz Sharif had advised the PPP leader to have mercy on the system and the government and not take undue advantage of the office of the prime minister. He said that now former PM Sharif should act upon his own advice and accept the court's decision.
"Nawaz Sharif should take pity on the nation. Pakistan is a habitation of human beings and not of animals, and we won't allow it to become a habitation of the animals," he added. Haq said that the apex court's decision is against an individual and not against the Parliament or the system. According to the decision, an individual not qualified to be a member of the Parliament cannot be the head a political party.
The JI emir, however, said that the Senate elections should be held according to the schedule in a peaceful atmosphere and democratic system should not be derailed. Haq said that the powerful elite of the country has never been subjected to accountability. He said that some individuals are moving towards a clash of institutions only to escape accountability. However, he said, that the masses are not in favour of a clash between institutions.
He said that for the first time, the Supreme Court had begun the accountability of the powerful elite by taking a strict action and it is to be seen how this historic decision affects the country's politics and future. He said that the Parliament is the representative of the country and the entire nation, adding that using the Parliament for an individual is a mockery of the Constitution and the law as in this way the Parliament would lose confidence of masses. All political parties should be on same page for supremacy of the Constitution and the judiciary, Haq added.
