Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has said the Supreme Court's verdict against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was expected as no court or parliament would allow a disqualified person to head a political party. He expressed these views while talking to media here on Thursday.
To a question on Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP)'s refusal to allow the PML-N candidates to contest the Senate election under their party banner, he said this was bound to happen; the PML-N took a wrong a decision (to appoint a disqualified person as their party head). "The ECP had to take this step," he added. He further said PML-N was run by a mafia and the parliament was working for a liar. "Corruption cases are opening against the ministers while institutions are headed by people like Ahad Cheema. These people are looting the country," he added. He again questioned the money trail of Nawaz Sharif's wealth. "His companies own Rs 300 billion and a student (Sharif's son) lives in a 6-billion-rupee flat. Where did all this money come from?" he questioned.
He asked why Nawaz Sharif refused to give a money trail of his wealth; he only submitted a Qatari letter and fake documents in the court. "In comparison, I submitted 64 documents to substantiate money trail of my wealth," he added. "Nawaz Sharif and his cronies know that it is stolen money. Ishaq Dar did all the dirty work of laundering the ill-gotten money," he added.
Earlier, he attended the Tahaffuz Khatm-e-Nubuwwat Mushakh Conference which was organised by the PTI Mushakh Wing. While addressing the conference, he said the N-League government secretly changed the (wording of) Khatm-e-Nubuwwat declaration to please foreign powers. He was of a firm view that the government intentionally changed the declaration. "They (government) thought that the people will forget this wrongdoing, but they have not forgotten it. The people from all sects are asking a question that why the government secretly made the amendment," he added.
When the matter surfaced in the House, for two weeks the Federal Law Minister lied to the National Assembly that they had not changed the declaration. "All are seeking a reason behind the amendment," he added. According to him, after accepting the mistake and tendering an apology, the government constituted a committee chaired by Raja Zafarul Haq to investigate the facts. The report was still awaited, he added.
"The Raja Zafarul Haq report will unveil the conspiracy; I think the people caught in the Panama scandal are behind the conspiracy of intentionally changing the amendment on the Finality of Prophethood declaration. Nawaz Sharif is seeking foreign help to guard himself against accountability. The same purpose was behind the Dawn Leaks. Nawaz Sharif will compromise the country's security and religion for his vested interests," he added. For seeking protection from the army, Nawaz Sharif held secret meetings with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kathmandu which was disclosed by the Indian media, he said. "What kind of a leader in the world goes against his army," he wondered.
He equated Nawaz Sharif with Mir Jaffar and Mir Sadiq for betraying their nations. "The West is always in search of an opportunity to malign our Prophet (PBUH) with an aim of weakening the Muslim world that draws strengthen from the Quran and the Prophet (PBUH). The Muslims were right in showing anger against Salman Rushdie," he added. Imran firmly maintained that no criticism or slander against the Prophet (PBUH) will be tolerated.
On the occasion, he also pledged to carry out reforms in the Auqaf department. He said the money collected from saints' mausoleums will be spent on the poor and needy people. "When they come into power, this money and the land owned by Auqaf will be used for establishing new orphan homes, schools, universities and hospitals," he added. He also committed to make Pakistan a welfare and prosperous state after following the principle adopted by the state of Medina.
