Four days training on modern teaching skills - Inquiry Based Science Education-IBSE was ended on Saturday organized by Sindh Community Foundation, with support of Community Development Program (CDP) Planning and Development Board, Government of Sindh with technical support of Pakistan Science Foundation at Hyderabad.
Asadullah Khan Scientific officer and Zulfiqar Ali Scientific Officer who led the different sessions on Inquiry based science education. Teachers were provided different tools and were engaged to apply by exercise and through hands on practices on various topics and concepts of Biology, Physic and Chemistry during the training.
During the training teachers also visited Planetarium and Science Carvan at Tando Jam of Pakistan Science Foundation which provided them the understanding on various practical of biology, physic and chemistry by audio-visual session. The study visit attracted teachers to use the audio-visual for science education.
At the end of teachers planned actions plans to deliver the acquired learning in their respective schools to deliver lessons for female students in science subjects where they will be applying modern audio-visual techniques in practical in laboratory.
The training enable female teachers with the modern teaching skills through applying inquiry based science education to improve quality education among girl's students of targeted school so that they would be handling science subjects in well manner.
The 22 female teachers from 8 government girls' secondary schools including, GGHS Nazarpur, GGHS Dando, GGHS Campus Shaikh Bhirkiyo, GGHS T.M Khan City, GGHS Campus Bulri Shah Kareem, GGHS Dulha Jo Pir, GGHS Rajo Nizamani, GGHS Baqar Nizamani took part in training programs.
The concluding ceremony was arranged at the end of workshop. Javed Hussain Head of Sindh Community Foundation said that science education is not on the agenda in Sindh province so science score of children /students is very poor due to various factors including lack of availability of lobotomies in schools.
Lack of science teachers is another factor in government girls' schools and the already appointed teachers have no modern training in science education teaching. He demanded that there is need to put science education in core areas of Sindh Education strategy with allocating proper resources and follow-up methods. He said that soon children science museum will be establish in order to promote the science education among wide scale students /children of Sindh.
Renowned writer and Ex- Director of Radio Pakistan Hyderabad Naseer Mirza said that we are running in the era of Science and technology with there is needed to equip new generation with the modern concepts of science education. He said that human life is all about the science so without scientific knowledge development is impossible.
Ms. Aisha Agha of SCF said that SCF with support of CDP, Government of Sindh is planning to establish and upgrade 11 science laboratories in targeted schools and will conduct science fair through conducive and modern learning environment in schools in districts Tando Muhammad Khan. Female teachers Asma Shah of GGHS Dulha Jo Pir, Ms.
Noorjahan from GGHS Baqir Nizamani shared those views that IBSE was very new concepts and approach of teaching we were not familiar with it earlier, this provided us a great chance and flourish the teaching capacity. They committed that they would be applying such approaches in their regular science teaching. Khalid Soomro Assistant Director - Carvan Pakistan Sindh Unit Tando Jam of Pakistan Science Foundation and Zulfiqar Soomro also spoke at the occasion.
