Gulalai claims PML-N has offered Senate ticket for criticising army
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) renegade MNA Ayesha Gulalai has claimed that ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had instigated her to badmouth the army, offering her a Senate ticket in return. Talking to the media outside the Parliament House, Gulalai said the only condition for the ticket was to attack the state institutions, adding that she will disclose the name of PML-N member who made the offer at a later date.
Gulalai said, "I refused the Senate ticket offer from the PML-N as it required speaking against the Army. This is against my patriotism, as army is the only institution that is working for the good of the country. Some people preach against wedding festivities and dancing, where some badmouth the army."
Gulalai said it is unfair to talk against the judiciary and army, saying it amounts to treason. "Nawaz is more dangerous than Imran," she alleged. She claimed that it is a shameful language which is being used by Nawaz Sharif against the judiciary. "Does the judiciary only hold the poor accountable and not the rich and the powerful?" she questioned.
Talking about Nawaz Sharif's daughter Maryam Nawaz, Gulalai questioned what kind of public politics this is when Maryam lands in Mansehra through helicopter. About South Punjab, she said there has been no development because all the funds are being spent in Lahore. Gulalai said she supports the demand for a separate province after looking at the conditions in South Punjab.
She had announced to leave PTI last year after levelling allegations of corruption and harassment against party leaders and chairman PTI Imran Khan respectively. She said the ruling PML-N could manage to win recently held Lodhran by-election against Imran Khan-led party only because of her, Nawaz Sharif did not even visit the NA-154 constituency to run the election campaign for his party.
"On the other hand, I led an election campaign on behalf of the ruling party to mend the public opinion against the PTI and reveal the party's true face in front of people of Lodhran," she claimed. Earlier in the National Assembly, Dr Shireen Mazari pointed out quorum just at the moment when the speaker gave floor to Gulalai to speak but the speaker has to adjourn the House due to lack of quorum.
Responding to a call attention notice regarding anti-terrorist operation exercise in Multan, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry said that mock exercises are conducted in different areas to prepare and train the security personnel for operations against the terrorists. He said that thousands of combing operations have been carried out in Punjab. He said that the security forces are taking action without any discrimination.
Dr Shireen Mazari said the Parliament has approved resolution against sending military troops to Saudi Arabia regarding Yemen war. She said approval was not taken from the Parliament about appointment of Pakistan's former Army Chief General Raheel Sharif (retd) to head a 39-country Saudi-led military alliance of Muslim countries. More military troops are being sent to Saudi Arabia. She said that PML-N government should brief the Parliament in this regard, she said.
