Opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly Mian Mahmood-ur-Rasheed on Friday demanded that Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah should brief the House that why the departments of Punjab government are not cooperating with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). Rasheed was speaking on an adjournment motion submitted by him in the Assembly regarding NAB Chairman, former Justice Javed Iqbal statement's in which he said that some departments of the Punjab government are not cooperating with the NAB.
He said the Speaker should direct the Law minister to come to the House and brief them that why the government officials are not cooperating with the NAB. He said most of the questions of the adjournment motions were never answered. While responding to the question of Opposition leader, Speaker Rana Iqbal said this question will be answered according to the rule. He further said that complaints of the Opposition leader regarding pending adjournment motions will be discussed in the meeting.
Earlier, the session started 1 hour 48 minutes late under the chair of Speaker Punjab Assembly Rana Muhmmad Iqbal. PML-N MPA Waheed Gul said the NAB is an independent institution and Opposition should avoid using statements that they are standing with the Bureau. Such statements convey wrong impression, he added. Jamat-e-Islami MPA Syed Waseem Akhtar said the government is not serious in providing health facilities to the far-flung areas of Bahwalpur. It is focusing on completing the visible projects of Orange Line in Lahore. He said the people of Bahawalpur are demanding their separate province so that they can use their resources according to their needs.
While responding to the questions relating to Specialized Health Care & Medical Education, Parliamentary Secretary Hassaan Riaz said the government is considering to establish more burn units in Lahore, however in the Annual Development Programme of 2017-18 there is no such scheme. He further said that there is burn unit of 91 beds in surgical tower of Mayo Hospital while the burn unit of Jinnah Hospital has six model operation theaters and 78 beds. He said in case of emergency, burn units of Lahore can handle 400 people.
The answers relating to the questions of Department of Special Education were given by Minister Chaudhry Muhammad Shafique. The session of the House was adjourned till 2pm on Monday without completing the government business.
