The Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) understands from the report appearing in a section of press that the Federal Cabinet in its meeting held other day discussed, in detail, the matter relating to transfer of Pakistan Central Cotton Committee (PCCC) from Ministry of Textile Industry to Ministry of National Food Security and Research and constituted a committee headed by Sartaj Aziz, Advisor to Prime Minister of Pakistan to assess Cotton Production Pattern in the country and submit its recommendations within 02 weeks for making decision.
The KCA is of a firm view that while taking important decisions concerning to the cotton trade, the government should take on board all the stakeholders of the cotton economy including the Karachi Cotton Association, a premier body of the cotton trade in Pakistan for making necessary consultation in order to arrive on effective and result oriented decisions.
The Government should realize that due to devastating cotton crop failure in cotton season 2015-16 and shortfall in cotton crop 2016-17 season, all stakeholders of cotton economy were badly effected. In view of the position stated above, the KCA urges upon the Government to include its representative on the Committee, constituted by the Federal Cabinet, in its meeting held to assess cotton production pattern in the country.-PR
