Sindh Minister for Education Jam Mehtab has confessed to a whopping 22,000 extraneous appointments in the provincial education department. The disclosure came in the wake of teachers' protest outside Karachi's press club. The education fraternity has been staging sit-in in favour of their 16-point demands since Dec-25. Mehtab told a private TV channel that provincial exchequer can no longer afford burden of such large number of teachers, adding that many of them even don't know alphabets of their respective subjects.
A similar confession was made by Mehtab a few months back when he admitted that inept teachers were appointed on regular basis after taking hefty bribes with the connivance of local officials. Meanwhile, teachers have refused to end the protest outside Karachi's press club. On Tuesday, police baton-charged and detained at least 19 teachers.
