Greenwich University convocation: speakers exhort youths to work for betterment of society
The speakers at the 12th Convocation of Greenwich University at its Karachi campus, on Saturday, said that Pakistani youths are capable enough that they can help resolve many problems of the country. Congratulating the graduates, they emphasised that the country required services of youths for the growth and development in every sphere of life. They urged them to come forward and use their education and knowledge in a vibrant way for the betterment of the society.
As many as 333 degrees were awarded. Five were Associate Degree, 213 undergraduates, 108 graduates, 07 M. Phil while 19 gold medals were also given to the students for academic excellence of each department.
On this occasion, honoris causa, the highest academic honour was conferred by Greenwich University to extraordinary individuals in recognition of their outstanding achievements in their respective fields. Honoris causa Ph.D degree was awarded to renowned TV writer and host Anwar Maqsood, Sardar Yasin Malik, chairman Hilton Pharma, S.M. Muneer, chairman Din Group of Industries and Air Commodore, Shabbir Ahmed Khan (Retd).
Vice chancellor Seema Mughal said the aim of the university is not only to prepare students for their personal better future but also for a brighter future of Pakistan. She said Greenwich has been working progressively on its mission for the last three decades and has already crossed many milestones in the process. She said Greenwich has opened a campus in Mauritius last year. She expressed hope the university will play a vital role ensuring improved educational opportunities for everyone in that region, as well.
She said entry into the market of Mauritius has significant political and economic importance for Pakistan. "This venture will surely generate foreign exchange for Pakistan under the head of export of services," she said, adding that politically it is important because we can foster relations and make new friends in Africa.
Greenwich University also carries a unique tradition of Platform Party that comprises of some of the most respectable and outstanding members of the society. For year 2017, the platform party members include: General Mohammad Siddique (retd), Muffasar Malik of KCCI, Arif Habib, chairman Arif Habib Group, Professor Dr Mukhtar Ahmed (SI), chairman, Higher Education Commission, Dr Sardar Yaseen Malik (HI) (SI), chairman Hilton Pharma, Dr Sirajuddin Aziz, president and CEO, Habib Metropolitan Bank Ltd, and Dr Sultana Siddiqui, president Hum TV network.
