That our policy or decision-makers often act prematurely is a fact that seems to have found its best expression from Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet's decision to revise regulatory duty (RD) on dozens of imported items. The ECC is said to have taken this decision in order to improve balance of payment position by reversing the trend of widening trade deficit.
Unfortunately, however, it has no courage to concede the fact that a 'blanket' imposition of regulatory duty on various import items has backfired. It had imposed duty even on those items that are used as raw material for producing exportable goods. All those who were behind the imposition of unwanted regulatory duty to answer the question why they had been working with feverish haste.
