Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif inaugurated the southern loop I and II on Friday which was constructed in collaboration with Lahore Ring Road Authority and Frontier Works Organization (FWO). Construction of this 22.4 km long important road, which has been constructed in a period of one year, has interconnected the southern and northern parts of Lahore. This road is 90 meters wide with six lanes capacity and more than 100,000 passengers will travel on this international-quality road every day.
Speaking the inaugural ceremony of ring road southern loop, the Chief Minister said that this project has been completed under public-private partnership (PPP) mode which is constructed by civil administration and the FWO jointly and added that it is the best way to move the country forward. He said that ring road southern loop project is an example of quality, rapid completion and construction standards. He appreciated services of those involved in speedy construction of this project.
He said the horticulture model, developed in collaboration with Turkey and Punjab Horticulture Authority is beautifying this project through the dexterous use of horticulture. He said that this project will play an important role to smooth the flow of traffic in the backdrop of rising population in Lahore.
The construction standard of southern loop is very high and I have had held many meetings with DG FWO Lieutenant General Muhammad Afzal. He stated FWO and Lahore Ring Road Authority signed an agreement and the DG FWO said that full efforts would be made to complete this project by August 2017. However despite some obstacles the project has been completed in one year time which is a historic achievement. He told that Punjab government has made a saving of seven billion rupees in the project.
