Supreme Court dismisses plea against NTS

The Supreme Court on Friday upheld the verdict of the Sindh High Court (SHC) ruling that the admissions in the government-run medical colleges and universities would be conducted on the basis of National Testing Service (NTS) test held earlier.
The apex court bench, headed by Justice Mushir Alam, was hearing the appeal of dozen of students who could not succeed in the test against the SHC judgment that upheld the NTS test held on October 22 this year and ordered the authorities concerned to start the admission process on the basis of the same test.
During the hearing, Justice Alam remarked that 22,000 students had appeared in the test out of which only 12 had moved the court. "The transparency of the test would have been questionable, had a large number of the candidates approached the court against it," he added. While dismissing the plea, the apex court ruled that it had found nothing to interfere in the high court's judgment.
Earlier on December 05, the SHC bench, headed by Justice Munib Akhtar, pronounced its verdict on a set of petitions of two groups-one seeking the fresh test to be conducted and another wanted against it. A total 22,000 candidates appeared in the test out of which 144 petitioners had sought to have the test upheld. In contrast, only 9 prayed to the court order the authorities concerned for conducting a fresh test. The SHC had quashed the provincial government's notification of cancelling the test and directed the authorities concerned to proceed with the processing of admissions to the MBBS and BDS programs in public sector medical universities and colleges on the basis of the admission test held on October 22.
