Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KW&SB) has failed in detecting those involved in choking of its sewerage system although official sources assert that there is a political motive behind overflowing of filthy water on various city's arteries. The KW&SB's Managing Director Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi told Business Recorder that sewerage lines were being choked deliberately and anti social elements were involved in throwing gunny bags filled with stones and bricks in several sewerage lines and manholes.
However, not a single perpetrator has so far been arrested, in this connection. On Friday, the KW&SB team recovered bags packed with empty wine bottles, and potatoes from a manhole in Hussain Hazara Goth in Gulistan-e-Johar Block-11.
Around 12000 km area is falling under the KW&SB jurisdiction. It is not easy to secure all sewerage lines from such anti-social activities, however the officials are there to have a strict vigilance on such nefarious activities, Hashim said, adding that instructions were given to the subordinates to build working relationship with the local bodies representatives and concerned agencies to form a vigilant mechanism amid thwarting such nefarious activities in the port city. These directives have also failed to give desired results because those elements have not been taken to task, so far.
