Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced as many as 18 players for the fitness camp starting from Saturday as a part of preparations of a strong team for the upcoming New Zealand tour. The top pacers including Mohammad Irfan, Junaid Khan and Sohail Khan have been dropped from the list of 18 players announced for camp training. The left-arm pacer Junaid was ruled out earlier owing to stress fracture of his foot.
Some young players have been given a chance to prove their mettle. The young players Aamer Yamin, Umar Amin, Sohaib Maqsood and Imam-ul-Haq have been shortlisted for the fitness camp. The selected players for camp training are: Skipper Sarfraz Ahmed, Azhar Ali, Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam, Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Hafeez, Harris Sohail, Fahim Ashraf, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Amir, Hasan Ali, Rumman Raees, Ahmed Shehzad and Mohammad Nawaz. The fitness test of these players will be held on December 23 in Lahore, a PCB spokesman said.
It may be noted that Azhar Ali and Mohammad Hafeez have already participated and cleared their fitness tests and are expected to be sent to New Zealand with the touring squad. Pakistan will play five ODIs and three T20Is in New Zealand. The first ODI between Zealand and Pakistan will be held on January 6, next year.
