The salt industry, which was exporting 250 containers every month, has now reached the verge of collapse as a number of factories have suspended their operations. Sargodha Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) President, Sheikh Naveed, who was leading a delegation, revealed this while meeting with Provincial Minister for Industry & Trade Sheikh Alla-uddin, here on Wednesday. He apprised the minister of the issues being faced by Sardgodha-based business community.
The facilitation centre of Sargodha has been closed since 2013 whereas salaries of the staff are still being released, he said. Only a single gypsum producing factory in the area is facing non-availability of gas. He also briefed the minister about the problems related to wooden handy craft industry and demanded to resolve their problems on priority basis.
The minister assured the delegation that the Punjab government would take necessary steps to meet the legitimate demands. The government will also help the businessmen through self-financing. The minister directed the Punjab Small Industries Corporation to visit Sargodha and compile a complete list of factories which have been closed.
