Collective efforts needed for girls' education in Sindh: speakers
Without girls education development cannot be been seen in its origin form, collective efforts are needed for the girl's education in Sindh. This was discussed by the participants of girls education festival held at Tando Muhammad Khan city with the title empowering girls empowering Pakistan.
Speakers were included Ajaz Shah Bukhari Member Provincial Assembly, Javed Hussain Executive Director of Sindh Community Foundation, Ibraheem Katiar, Deputy District Education Officer Secondary, Anwar Ali Assistant Commissioner Tando Muhammad Khan Taluka, AD Saheto Taluka Education Officer and Ishtiaq Ali of DEO office Tando Muhammad Khan, Ghulam Muhammad Sehto Deputy Director Social Welfare Department of Tando Muhammad Khan, Imran Qureshi, Aisha Agha and Zoya Sheikh of SCF.
The festival was aimed to encourage female student's targeted 10 government secondary girls' schools of district when intervention of SCF improving girls education was undertaken with support of Small Grants and Ambassador's Fund Program-SGAFP. Education festival was held by Sindh Community Foundation. After the opening ceremony female students took part in debate competition with the title importance of girl's education; issues and way forward. 10 female students took part and three best speeches were awarded with cash prize.
The second section of education festival was the role play competition among the 10 schools. In the role plays girls groups depicted various realities and hindrances in girls' education in the rural areas. The role plays attracted the other female students and participants. In a role play a girl interested to continue her education after completion of primary but due to poverty of their family she was unable, all of sudden some social activists come their house and meet with her father to leave her for nearby government secondary school but he refused as he cannot afford the expenses of uniforms, copies and other educational aids. After religious meeting finally she got admission to continue her education after one year gap. In these role play girls students also showed their talent and potential that if girls should be provided with learning spaces and quality education they can prove their self. Girls group from Saeed Mato Boys Middle School win the best performance of their role play on girls education in which they depicted that father despite of the opposition of their family got admission of his daughter in secondary school and then changed the mindset of the other community members. Festival also awarded with cash prize to 27 groups, 3 from each for their best entrepreneurship ideas run in intra-schools entrepreneurship competition by SCF last month.
