Overall Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) decreased by 5.91 percent to reach 47.3 (Diffusion Index) during November 2017 compared to 50.3 in September 2017. According to Consumer Confidence Survey, conducted by the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi and the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the decrease in CCI has been attributed to both Current Economic Conditions (CEC) Index, which decreased by 5.80 percent and the Expected Economic Conditions (EEC) Index that recorded a decline of 6.03 percent from its value in the previous survey.
The result of the survey implies high inflation views are more than low inflation views. Overall inflation expectations have been increased by 1.24 percent to 73.7 (Diffusion Index) compared to 72.8 (Diffusion Index) in the previous survey conducted in September 2017. The survey shows that inflation expectations regarding all the sub-categories except food have increased in November 2017.
The sample of the survey consists of a rotating panel with 33 percent of respondents are those households which were surveyed six months earlier, while the remaining 67 percent are fresh. The stratification scheme of the survey is implemented in the rotating panel too. This exercise was conducted during the afternoon hours of 1st-4th November 2017 and 1,768 households were surveyed.
The Consumer Confidence Survey is a stratified random telephone survey of households across Pakistan. Launched in January 2012 and having a two-monthly frequency, the survey is conducted by the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi and the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
