The Lahore High Court on Thursday has ordered director general of Parks and Horticultural Authority (PHA) to appear in person with record regarding cutting of trees across the city of Lahore and adjourned the proceeding until second week of December. The court observed that PHA director general had been showing negligence toward the matter of public importance and had not bothered filing a reply for the past one year.
The court put off further hearing of a petition of PTI member Andleeb Abbas against cutting of trees. The petitioner through his counsel pleaded that Lahore city is becoming one of the most polluted cities in the world due to the cutting of trees. He said that to ensure biodiversity and food security in the province, the government should formulate and implement the Punjab Forest Policy to enhance the forest cover up to 25 percent of the area of the province.
