The Lahore High Court on Tuesday while hearing a petition against Chairman Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) observed that the world has gone much forward but qualification of chairman PEMRA was still BA. The court directed the counsel of the authority to come up with the record of Absar Alam's appointment as PEMRA chairman.
Earlier, Azhar Siddique presenting the petitioner Amina Malik argued that Prime Minister appointed Absar Alam as PEMRA chairman on the basis of personal liking and thus the merit was ignored. The counsel said that Absar Alam does not fulfill the requirements for the said post. He asked the court to set aside appointment. A counsel representing the authority told the court that his appointment was made on merit as the minimum qualification for the post was graduation. The court directed the counsel to present record as to how the incumbent PEMRA chairman was appointed and rose for Wednesday (today).
