Emir Jamaat-e-Islami Sirajul Haq Tuesday said neither did the government take parliamentary parties into confidence on Tehreek Labbaik Ya Rasool Allah sit-in nor did hold any consultation on the matter, which shows that rulers are themselves responsible for lowering the status of elected houses. He was talking to the media persons here at residence of Jamaat-e-Islami Youth Wing Vice-President Raja Zohaib, who was killed in the police operation at Faizabad recently. He offered his condolences with the father of late Zohaib.
Sirajul Haq demanded a judicial inquiry to expose the persons behind the conspiracy to amend the oath of legislators regarding Finality of Prophethood, and the firing that resulted in the martyrdom of several people and caused injuries to several others. He alleged that besides Zahid Hamid, some other persons are involved in this conspiracy.
He said that the government was itself responsible for the entire situation as it did not give due respect to the institutions, adding that a narrative is being issued against the judiciary everyday. He said if the politicians want to do politics, they should also accept the judgments of the courts. He said that an effective accountability system is a must for true democracy. Instead of creating hurdles in the way of accountability or considering themselves above the accountability, the rulers should allow the accountability institutions to work freely, he added.
The JI emir made it clear that there cannot be any compromise on Islam and the democratic system. Jamaat-e-Islami has been standing by democracy, adding if there has been any threat to democracy then it is due to negative attitude of the rulers. He said that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has been saying that the people wanted liberal and secular Pakistan. However, he said the message of the martyrdom of Mumtaz Qadri and Raja Zohaib is that the people don't want secular country. It is unfortunate that the rulers have been looking towards the United States instead of Makkah and Madina and want the goodwill of the infidels, he deplored.
The JI emir said that the people of Pakistan have been offering huge sacrifices for a declaration that Ahmadis are non-Muslims, adding that Jamaat-e-Islami founder Maulana Syed Abul Ala Maudoodi had been jailed on the same issue. He said that the Jamaat-e-Islami MNA Sahibzada Tariqullah was one of them who pointed out the amendment to the oath but nobody heard him that time; however, later due to public pressure, the government had to retreat on the matter.
