The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday welcomed end of sit-in at Faizabad Chowk in Islamabad and other parts of the country. "Due to negligence of the government, people all over the country have been suffering with normal life coming to a grinding halt. This issue could have been resolved much earlier without the violence and loss of lives had the government released the Raja Zafar ul Haq report and taken resignation from the people responsible," said a PTI spokesperson.
The PTI believes that the government completely mishandled the situation right from the start. Among the failures the party highlighted are changes in the oath of nomination form regarding Khatum-e-Nubuwat which were introduced in a surreptitious manner without any notice to members of the main committee or the sub-committee.
"For the record, this issue was never brought up for discussion in any of the meetings of the two committees. Minutes of the meetings will testify to this," said the spokesperson. Moreover, the issue of oath in the nomination form regarding Khatum-e-Nubuwat was never introduced in the National Assembly and discussed there.
A committee under Raja Zafar ul Haq was formed to inquire into the matter and submit a report within 24 hours. "This report is still awaited despite repeated calls for its publication," he added. The PTI observed that a botched operation was launched at Faizabad in which many people lost their lives, hundreds were injured and public/private property was destroyed. "Now, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal makes the laughable claim that he did not know about the operation," the spokesperson said.
The resignation of Law Minister Zahid Hamid could have happened much earlier to diffuse the crisis, said the spokesperson, and added that the delay in obtaining it resulted in great suffering for the people, destruction of public and private property and regretful loss of precious lives. The PTI held the government directly responsible for this egregious mistake.
