The sit-in of Tehreek-e-Labbiak Ya Rasool Allah (TLYRA) Peshawar chapter against Islamabad operation continued for second consecutive day at Ring Road near Jamil Square multiplied traffic woes of the people coming to Peshawar city and Hayatabad.
The protesters blocked Ring Road and Phando Road for all kind of vehicular traffic. However due to thin traffic flow on Sunday passers used alternate routes to avoid traffic jam. The sit-in was led by District Peshawar Ameer of the party Hujatullah who flanked with leaders of other likeminded religious groups.
The protesters condemned the brutal baton charge and use of tear gas against the Islamabad sit in participants and warned the federal government to immediately withdraw all FIRs against activist of Tehreek-e-Labbiak Ya Rasool Allah.
The protestors were joined by the small groups of religious parties from various areas of Peshawar and vowed to continue their sit in until the withdrawal of FIRs against their party workers in Islamabad. They also demanded release of the arrested persons from Islamabad jails and asked the interior minister to resign along with Law minister Zahid Hamid.
In the meanwhile, the Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami, Siraj-ul-Haq also condemned the use of forces against the activist of Tehreek-e-Labbiak and suggested the government to refrain further crackdown against protesters. He said that government should handle the matter peacefully and should heed the demands of the protesters.
Activist of Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan (JUP) Noorani Group also joined the protest sit at Jamil square and expressed sympathies with activist of Tehreek-e-Labbiak Ya Rasool Allah (TLYR). The participants had put chairs and stones on Ring Road to block the traffic via Phando road and City Circular Road linking GT Road Peshawar.
Traffic remained thin on Sunday as all government offices and educational institutions were closed however if the sit continued for Monday, it would cause worst traffic jam as main GT Road Peshawar is already jam pack due to work on Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project.
