Deputy Commissionaire Korangi District Abdul Wajid Shaikh has assured business community to launch anti-encroachment campaign in Korangi Industrial Area, soon. Speaking at a meeting of Korangi Association of Trade &Industry (KATI) he assured he would take strict action on all complains of the area that is in his jurisdiction and takes action against encroachment and land-grab mafia. He also assured to take appropriate action to stop dumping of garbage and debris in Malir River area along with the EMB Causeway.
KATI president Tariq Malik briefed him about issues faced by industrialists due to encroachment. He said that despite contributing a large share in the country's economy, KIA is facing huge problems. Chairman & CEO KITE, Zubair Chhaya briefed the DC about major problems faced by industry of the area. He said that encroachment on roadside and government lands were creating multiple issues whereas many "Chapra" hotels have become sanctuaries of criminal elements.
He said that many illegal commercial activities on the roadsides of the area were causing hurdles in traffic movement, and causing unrest for the commuters and industrial activities. He mentioned that dumping in Malir River near EMB causeway could cause flood-like situation in the locality, in case of heavy rains.
KATI;s senior vice president Salman Aslam said that illegal parking of heavy vehicles and land-grabbing on roadsides were directly affecting 400 industrial unites of sector 24. Masood Naqi said that utilities providing departments began road-cutting and digging roads which also continued to damage the road infrastructure of the area. He urged that the road-cutting without prior permission and only in the extreme need, should be declared a criminal offence.
