Fifth Asian Indoor & Martial Games: Pakistan win bronze in kickboxing; medal tally rises to 21
Pakistan grabbed another bronze medal in a game Pakistan appeared for the first time when promising Maaz Khan grabbed bronze medal in -75kg Low Kickboxing event of the ongoing 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games being played at different venues of the City Olympic Village at Ashgabat (Turkmenistan) on Monday.
With this bronze medal Pakistan tally of medal reached to 21 medals, including two gold medals, three silver and 16 bronze medals. Turkmenistan is leading the medal table with 83 gold medals, 61 silver medals and 77 bronze medals, China jumped from behind to get second position so far with 33 gold, 22 silver and 20 bronze medals, Kazakhstan with 23 gold, 23 silver and 30 bronze medals at third, followed by Iran with 23 gold medals, 18 silver and 54 bronze medals. Pakistan is overall on 21 number at the medal tally.
Maaz Khan in the -75kg weight category has qualified for the semi-finals before defeating Rohollah Muhammadi of Afghanistan in the quarter-finals. Maak Khan faced Hossein Karami of Iran in the Men Full-Contact -75kg weight but he lost the semi-final on points and thus won the bronze medals.
Tahir Abbas Qureshi, Secretary General of the Pakistan Kickboxing Association when asked to comment after Maaz Khan winning the bronze medal, he told APP that the players were good enough despite they lost their respective fight. He said: "This is the first time that Pakistan has competed in this competition and it is a very big achievement. We have three fighters here and we are very happy that Maaz has won a bronze medal."
On the performance of Maaz Khan in Ashgabat, he said Maaz Khan defeated a best fighter of Afghanistan Rohollah Mohammadi in the first round and he lost to Hoseein Karami of Iran on points.
In the swimming Pakistan poor performance continued with none of the swimmer could show any worthwhile things. In the 100m IM Pakistan Jehnanara Nabi clocked 1.19.39sec and took sixth position while in the same event Bisma Khan of Pakistan won fourth position with her time 1.12.13sec. In the Men's 100m Individual Medley Heat Pakistan Farrukh got first position with his time 1.08.65sec, and Muhammad Yahya Khan got second position with his clock time 1.00.68sec.
In the Women's 100m Freestyle Heat Aisha Mishael Ayub got fifth position with her time 1.03.67sec and Bisma Khan remained 6th with her time 1.02.87sec. In the Men's 100m freestyle Heat Pakistan's Muhammad Yahya got first position with his time 55.15 but he failed to reach the final similarly in the Women's 50m Breaststroke Heat Ramsha Imran got sixth position with a clock time 38.18sec, in the Men's 4x100m Medley Relay Heat Pakistan finished at 8th position with poor time 4.14.00sec and did not qualify for the final lane-up.
In the Women's 4x100m Medley Relay Final Pakistan got 7th position. Bisma Imran, Asiha Mishael Ayub and Jehanara Nabi failed miserably to give good time. In the 100m IM final Bisma failed to start and thus things over for Pakistan in swimming. In the snooker 15-Red singles first round Asjad Iqbal recorded victory against Al-Shajjar Bosil Hasan of Philippines by 4-3, the score was 34-62, 46-77, 68-28, 48-77, 64-33, 81-6 and 76-32. In the last two frames Asjad recorded a break of 75 and 72 respectively.
In the pre-quarter-final Asjad beat Saif Ahmad of Qatar by 4-1, the score was 61-40, 79-4, 62-50, 28-68, 64-58. Asjad after securing two victories but failed to click against China Zhoo Xin Tong in the quarter-final and lost the match by 4-1, the score was 103-24, 39-76, 71-0, 78-40 and 110-0. The Chinese player recorded 58, 76, 71 and 106 points break against Pakistan's Asjad. Pakistan only won one bronze medal in Snooker event, a result no one was expecting.
