President Mamnoon Hussain has conferred Pride of Performance Award on renowned humorous poet Sarfraz Shahid. Renowned Urdu poet/writer Sarfraz Shahid was conferred with the Presidential Award for the Pride of Performance in recognition of his extraordinary services in the field of literature. He is one of the celebrated humorous poets of Pakistan, who has his own unique mature style, skill and identification. He is equally popular at home and abroad. His poetry is a unique blend of wit, humour and satire.
The award winner poet is the author of over 32 books including seven collection of original humorous poetry, namely Bila Takaluf, Kuch To Kahiay, Hera Phery, Chokay, Dish Antenna, Gufta Shagufta and Chokay Chakkay.
Apart from his long experience at Pakistan Meteorological Department, he is a recipient of several honours and awards including Amir Khuso Award by Amir Khusro Society London, Special Award for Scientific Poetry by the Biotechnology Commission of Pakistan and Life Achievement Award by Punjab Arts Council Murree. Sarfraz has represented Pakistan in the USA, UK, Canada, Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, Thailand, Singapore and Nepal. He has also participated in a number of national and international poetic symposiums.
Shahid's genius has also been recognised and appreciated by heavy weight laureates like Dr Shafiq-ur-Rehman, Syed Zameer Jaffari, Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi, Mumtaz Mufti, Iftikhar Arif, Dilawar Fiqar, Dr Jamil Talibi, Ataul Haq Qasmi, Mohsin Ihsan and others. Syed Zameer Jaffari has commented about Shahid's poetry that "After Akbar Allah Abadi", such "Meena Bazar" of humorous poetry would be rarely seen.
