Sindh cabinet has decided on Monday to rename the universities that are named after MQM's founder Altaf Hussain because of his anti-Pakistan remarks. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah presided over the Sindh cabinet meeting at the New Sindh Secretariat where all provincial ministers, chief secretary, IG Sindh, all the provincial secretaries and others attended. They discussed the amendments to the different bills accorded approval to table them at Sindh Assembly and get them passed.
Sindh chief minister told participants that there is no need that any university is named after a person who works in the hands of anti-Pakistan elementts to destabilise the country Hence, it was decided to rename Altaf Hussain University Hyderabad as Fatima Jinnah University and Altaf Hussain University Karachi as Abdul Sattar Edhi University.
The Home Department brought the bill on Anti-Terrorism Act 2016 regarding provisions for protection of judges, counsels, public prosecutors, witnesses and persons concerned with court proceedings. Murad Shah said that the provisions were indispensable for dispensation of justice. He and his cabinet supported the amendment.
The Minister Excise and Taxation Dr Mukesh Chawla presented Sindh Development and Infrastructure Cess Act-2017. The cabinet approved it to introduce in the assembly. The Health Minister Dr Sikandar briefed the cabinet about amendments to The Jacobabad Institute of Medical Science Act 2013 for changes in the structure of Governing Body, academic councils, structure and such other administrative decisions.
The Home Department proposed amendments in Section 3(5) of the Sindh Shaheed Recognition & Compensation Act, 2014 to appoint at least two members of the family being the legal heirs of Shaheed persons into service in relaxation of the conditions of qualification and age. On this, the chief minister said that a policeman who sacrifices his life in the line of his duty for Sindh and its people deserves to be properly protected. He said that the cop must know that his family would be properly looked even after his life. There were some suggestions for which the chief minister constituted a committee under Dr Sikandar Mendhro to revisit the draft bill.
The law department presented Sindh Rented Premises (Amendment) Bill-2016 under which landlord has been given protection. It was observed that the frauds committed by the tenants have put adverse impact on business of renting out the properties. The chief minister also formed a committee under Dr Mendhro to remove some of the lacunas from the draft bill. The cabinet also discussed The Sindh Occupational Safety & Health Bill-2017, Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Human Resource Research & Development Board Act 2013, amendments to the Sindh Coal Authority 1993 and Sindh Revenue Board Act, 2010.
