Pakistan Flour Mills Association (PFMA-Punjab) Chairman Riaz Ullah Khan and Group leader Asim Raza have called upon the Provincial Food Department (PFD) to immediately stop supply of substandard wheat to the flour mills. They said that flour millers were lodging strong protest against supply of substandard wheat in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Gujranwala, Faisalabad and Lahore Division depots of the provincial food department.
In a statement issued here Friday, both the flour millers claimed that wheat lying in the stores of the department for last many years was neither fit for human consumption nor for the animal feed. They said that the government should destroy this wheat like other countries.
PFMA Punjab leaders said that over 2.5 million tons of wheat was still lying with the Punjab food department. The millers had time and again urged the Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and the Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif for announcing a permanent export policy but of no avail.
A permanent export policy could render 50 per cent closed flour mills functional and saving wheat of billions of rupees being waste by just lying in the stores. They said they were unable to understand the mum kept by the people at the helm of the affairs in this regard.
