This is apropos a Business Recorder news item "PSM: Story of sell-off not over yet" carried by the newspaper on Thursday. According to it, Secretary Privatisation Commission, Sardar Ahmad Nawaz Sukhera has revealed that the federal government is working on a new integrated module to privatise Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) which would comprise of settlement of liabilities hovering around Rs 200 billion and making the mill operational.
That sell-off or privatisation plans of subsequent governments have turned into something beyond parody is a fact. In other words, no government wants to rid the economy of white elephant. Taxpayers' money carries no sanctity. The comedy of Public Sector Entities (PSEs) has now reached a point where it is no longer able to make people laugh.
