The brief arrest of Muttahida Qaumi Movement - Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Farooq Sattar was further shroud in mystery as Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah appeared unaware of the incident. Sattar was arrested by Police on Friday night but was released after a brief detention. However, the chief minister, while speaking to media on Saturday, seemed to clueless about the incident.
CM Sindh said Sattar was not arrested but rather just detained briefly for questioning, and the incident took place late at night. He said that a court has issued arrest warrants for Sattar, and the police have been instructed to present him in court. Therefore, it was likely that he was detained and told to either appear in court or receive bail. Sattar is nominated in cases pertaining to raising of anti-state slogans by MQM founder Altaf Hussain on August 22, and inciting party workers leading to subsequent attacks on media organizations.
