On the last day of the ongoing KP Under-23 Games, District Charsadda handed an upsetting defeat to strong Peshawar District team in a thrilling final played here at Sumbal Khan Football ground on Saturday. Director Operation Tariq Mehmood, former Pakistan team skipper Basit Kamal, Director Development Syed Saqlain Shah graced the occasion as guests. Besides Football final, the Karate event was also organized wherein Peshawar won the major trophy by securing 135 points.
Before the final the players of the two finalist teams Charsadda and Peshawar were introduced to the guests present on this occasion and witnessed the thrill-packed final. Peshawar got the lead in the very outset of the match through Imran on the field attempt and defended their lead till the end of the first session play.
Charsadda players have tried their hard to level the tally in the first session play but failed because of the tight play-to-player marking by Peshawar. At half-time Peshawar was leading by 1-0. In the Karate event Peshawar got first position by winning seven gold medal, followed by Nowshera with six silvers and four bronze medals while Charsadda remained at third with four silver and six bronze medals. Nowshera recorded 62 points against Peshawar securing 135 points and Charsadda got 58 points. At the end of the two events, Director Operation Tariq Mehmood, former Pakistan team skipper Basit Kamal, Director Development Syed Saqlain Shah, gave away winner and runners trophies of the football and karate. The winner got Rs 20,000 as cash prizes while the runners-up of each event awarded Rs 15000 cash prizes.
