Population census: PBS directed to ensure provision of timely information to public
Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has directed Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) to ensure provision of timely information to the public about the upcoming population census.
A meeting was chaired by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar to review the preparations of 2017 population census whereupon he was given a briefing by Chief Census Commissioner and Chief Statistician Asif Bajwa about the preparations made so far and to be made in the period before the census, scheduled from March 15.
Chief Statistician PBS Asif Bajwa briefed the meeting about the print and electronic media campaign to be launched for creating awareness among the masses about the census.
He stated that the campaign is meant to project the purpose and utility of the census exercise and that it also aims at encouraging the people to proactively and accurately provide relevant data and fully cooperate with the teams deputed to conduct census activities across the country.
Finance Minister Dar directed the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics to ensure that the general public is properly and timely informed about the census activities as well as about the long-term benefits of sharing accurate data and statistics.
The minister said that timelines for various activities should be followed strictly.
