Heavy snowfall: Safed Arkari Valley cut off from rest of country
Due to heavy snowfall Safed Arkari Valley of district Chitral has been cut off from the rest of country for last one month and the residents have to travel 70 kilometer distance, littered with avalanches, on foot to reach district quarters.
The valley has a population of 12000 people. The local residents including women and children are voluntarily clearing the road as they were extremely disappointed by the provincial government and other concerned officials to clear the only road to the area of snow and boulders.
The villagers said that the local administration has only one tractor to clear the road, blocked by snow and avalanches, which takes months.
According to locals, the residents stranded in the valley have no facilities; there aren't any schools, hospitals, dispensary or any means of communication. The area is also facing a severe shortage of food items people of the area have to walk on feet for two days to bring floor bags from Mulagono. Logging complains about their miseries, they said that the local are facing severe starvation.
Women of the area said that the road is blocked for more than a month; however, no one has bothered to inquire about their sufferings.
They appealed to the Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to look into the matter and take appropriate steps for addressing the problem being faced by the people of the area.
