Extortionist reportedly had threatened Mahesh Bhatt on his death on Wednesday and warned him of harm to Alia among his family members if he does not pay Rs 5 million. However, the threat call was traced to Uttar Pradesh prompting law enforcers to detain a suspect. Bhatt thanked the law enforcement agency for the development in a Twitter post. 68-year-old Bhatt lodged a formal complaint with Mumbai Police on Thursday. Mumbai Police Deputy Commissioner has said that a probe is underway.
Anti-extortion cell of the security agency is leading the case and the complaint is lodged with Juhu Police Station, the deputy commissioner said. Reportedly, Alia Bhatt and Soni Razdan, his daughter and wife were threatened to be harmed by the unidentified caller.
