Demanding immediate implementation of the proposed reforms in the tribal region, students from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas today (Wednesday) called for FATA's merger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Nisar Baz, who was representing the student organisation Qabaili Talaba Mahaz at a news conference at the Peshawar Press Club, said the people of the tribal areas were eager for their region's merger with the province.
He strongly criticised the Frontier Crimes Regulation in force in the tribal areas since British days, particularly the notoriously conservative "Rewaj Act" governing people's lives there. Nisar Baz demanded complete repeal of the FCR's Articles 246 and 247, which he said deprived the tribal people of fundamental rights. Therefore, FATA reforms must be endorsed by the federal cabinet without any further delay, he said.
