Punjab University Institute of Geology senior teachers addressed a press conference against vice chancellor Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir and Registrar Dr Naeem Khan for the illegal appointment of new director at the Institute of Geology in sheer violation of the Syndicate.
Around 13 faculty members and 15 employees of the institute under the leadership of Dr Shahid Jameel Sameeni (the director who has been removed in violation to the Syndicate decision), Professor Dr Nawaz Chaudhry, Dr Naved Ahsan and Dr Kamran Mirza were present in the press conference at the institute on Friday.
Addressing the press conference, the faculty warned the university administration that if the illegal appointment orders of Shahid Ghazi, who was removed in 2015, on the proven charges of corruption and misconduct, are not withdrawn, then all the faculty and employees will held a protest demonstration against VC outside his office on Monday. They said that Syndicate has approved the appointment of Sameeni until 2019 and he was working efficiently, all the faculty was happy with him. Now in violation of the syndicate orders, Ghazi has been appointed on political bases to please a particular group of teachers.
Addressing the press conference, Sameeni said that the institute was working smoothly and suddenly unrest has been created which caused serious academic loss and boycott of the classes, which as teachers they didn't like. He said the university administration should not impose the agenda of a particular group and be impartial as per their announced policy.
Assistant professor Kamran Mirza said, "The VC and registrar have back off their promised they made just one day ago regarding withdrawal of the new illegal appointment." He said now they were open to the options of going back to the teachers' community, holding protest demonstrations and approaching court of law to seek justice.
