Detailed scrutiny of nine INGOs to be carried out for registration

The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), Economic Affairs Division (EAD) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs have decided to carry out detailed scrutiny of nine international non-governmental organisations (INGOs) seeking registration in Pakistan as INGO. Sources toldBusiness Recorder here on Wednesday that a meeting of INGO committee was recently held under the chairmanship of secretary interior to consider 16 INGO cases for registration.
At the outset, 16 INGO cases were placed before the INGO Committee for consideration and all the participants shared their observations/ recommendations on case to case basis. Following seven INGOs were approved by INGO Committee for registration and signing of MOU on account of clearance by all stakeholders: Christian Blind Mission (CBM), Germany; International Islamic Charitable Organisation, Kuwait; Concern Worldwide, Ireland; Lifeline Christian Development Services, Germany; Human Appeal International, UK; Solidarites International, France; and International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), USA.
Following nine INGOs were deferred for registration for want of detailed scrutiny by MoFA, EAD and SECP: Caritas Switzerland; Cesvi, Italy; Cultivating New Frontier in Agriculture (CNFA), USA; HOP E'87 - Hundreds of Original Projects for Employment, Austria; John Snow Incorporated, USA; Muslim World League International Islamic Relief Organisation, KSA; Norwegian Church Aid, Norway; Saferworld, UK; and Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe, Germany. It was decided that the above pending INGO cases will be finalised after conducting a meeting of stakeholders with the representatives of the INGOs to address all concerns, before placing their cases before the next INGO Committee meeting, in last week of February.
