At least 15 militants were killed and seven others injured during a clash with security forces when the militants were attempting to enter Pakistan from Afghanistan near Pak-Afghan border in Kurram Agency, security forces said on Sunday. Two security forces personnel were also injured in the clash.
The 'encounter' came as Pakistani authorities issued shoot-at-sight orders to law enforcement agencies (LEAs) for those attempting to cross the Pak-Afghan border illegally into Pakistan.
Security sources said the militants were attempting to enter the Super Kot and Chamkani, bordering areas of Kurram Agency.
The security forces responded to the violation and killed eleven militants including a commander of banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), say security sources.
However, till the last night, heavy mortar shells and use of guns were made by security forces on militants in Afghanistan side, sources confirmed. In the wake of fresh suicide attacks in Lahore and Sehwan in Sindh, the Pak-Afghan Torkham border was remained closed for the fourth consecutive day and traffic, pedestrians and Afghan transit trade remained suspended as well.
A great number of loaded vehicles from both sides of Pakistan and Afghanistan stranded on Torkham Gate and passengers along with loaded trailers could not travel ahead of Michni check post on Pak-Afghan road. According to local sources, some 30 Pakistani drivers and conductors were apprehended by the security forces when they were trying to enter into Pakistani territory on Zaman Sapray area of Landi Kotal tehsil.
Political administration of Khyber Agency has directed the dwellers of Pak-Afghan border areas to migrate to safe places with immediate effect, said officials.
The directions were issued to the people living in Sheenphokh and Samsay areas of Khyber Agency. "Exodus is underway as the security forces have already launched operation in the area," officials told the local media persons.
NNI adds: At least eleven suspected terrorists including two commanders of banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were killed while trying to enter Pakistan from Afghanistan on Sunday.
The militants were rounded up by security forces in Superkot and Para Chamkani areas of Kurram tribal region.
