The Pakistan Industrial and Traders Association Front (PIAF) criticised the government for increasing petroleum prices after every fortnight and said the third consecutive increase in oil prices has added to the miseries of the public in general and business community in particular.
PIAF Chairman Irfan Iqbal Sheikh in a statement on Saturday said the sales tax on petrol was much higher in Pakistan and demanded of the government to provide relief to the masses buy slashing the sales tax. He also claimed that the government is receiving over 50 percent of the oil price on account of different taxes that has made it more expensive. He said the country's economy is showing growth but the persistent increase in petroleum prices would adversely impact the economic progress.
