Miani Sahib Graveyard: LHC seeks report about places reserved for graves
The Lahore High Court has required a report from the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Lahore about the places reserved for graves at Miani Sahib Graveyard by April 12 in an intra-court appeal against encroachments around the graveyard. A division bench headed by Justice Farrukh Irfan Khan on Saturday asked the DC and Chairman Miani Sahib Graveyard Committee to file a report that under what law such places were allocated to different persons and families.
The court observed that the report should include the names of the persons to whom these places are allotted and the mechanism for retrieving these places from them. The report should also include record of total area of the graveyard and how much land has been vacated from illegal occupants so far and how much land is still under occupation of illegal occupants, the court added.
The court also asked the DC to explain about the modus operandi which will be adopted by the committee to get the remaining land vacated from illegal occupation. Commissioner of Lahore Division Abdullah Khan Sumban and DC Lahore Sumari Syed and Secretary (colonies) Board of Revenue Chaudhry Ilyas appeared before the court. The commissioner and the DC informed the court that six walls of the graveyard have been completed and four inner walls are yet to be completed. Stay orders preventing to proceed are no more in the field and the process of construction of remaining walls will be completed in 15 days. The court also directed the commissioner to take steps for construction of pathways in the graveyard and make arrangements for proper lighting within six weeks.
