Under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, PML-N government is spending billions of rupees on different projects in Sialkot as compared to previous regimes. Sialkot, the export city was totally ignored by the past governments and deprived the city of its due rights, share in development despite its contribution to national economy in the form of revenue and foreign exchange.
The city was completely neglected owing to an indifferent attitude of previous regimes as a result the problems of unprecedented nature crept in the city and turned the city into 'Masail Kot' (city of problems). Due to the poor means of communication and lack of proper infrastructure, the foreign buyers found themselves reluctant to visit this export-oriented city and hub of cottage industry and this situation was demoralising exporters. For the first time in the history of Sialkot record development projects worth billions of rupees had been initiated during last three years as compared to previous years.
Keeping in view the problems of the exporters and miseries of the inhabitants, PML-N government had taken bold steps for the face-lift of Sialkot in order to provide relief to the masses. Under the plan government is focusing special attention on the improvement of means of communication, provision of better health facilities and education.
The development work on mega project of Sialkot-Lahore motorway with the cost of Rs 47 billion is in full swing. The completion of this mega project will reduce time and distance between Sialkot and Lahore. The development work on the construction of ring road with the cost of Rs 6 billion is underway. The steps have been taken to channels the traffic and ensure signal free travelling facilities to the masses. The construction work on 550 bed hospital with cost of Rs 6 billion is under progress and the completion of the hospital would provide modern health facilities to the people of Sialkot and its adjoining areas.
The government had already established Khawaja Muhammad Safdar Medical College which is successfully running and providing the local students medical education with in their own city. Initial work on the establishment of Technical University with the cost of Rs 5 billion is under process while government has also decided to set up NUST campus for which Rs 180 million have been released by the government. It may be added that Women University had already been established by the government in Sialkot to ensure higher education facilities for the female students. A large number of female students of Sialkot, Pasrur, Daska, Sambrial tehsils of district Sialkot are being provided higher education facility in Sialkot.
The common men, business community and trade bodies highly appreciate efforts and keen interest of Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif to get funds for initiating mega projects in Sialkot and give the city new and modern look. Connecting Sialkot with Lahore through an international standard road, Sialkot-Lahore Motorway would offer convenience to the people and more importantly to business community and exporters.
