Sharjeel and Latif punishment to be made exemplary, says PCB chief
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shaharyar Khan Wednesday said that cricketers Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif who were provisionally suspended will be awarded the harshest punishment, if charge of their alleged involvement in fixing during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is proved.
"There would be no leniency and such a punishment would be awarded to guilty persons that nobody would dare to commit such humiliated act," PCB chairman told media outside the PCB headquarters here today. Shaharyar Khan said that both the players are given ample opportunity to clear their position. The PCB's Anti-Corruption Unit will listen to the suspended duo's side of the story because it is important to hear their view point after which the punishment will be awarded by a tribunal. If both the cricketers confess their guilt, there would be no need to establish a Tribunal, otherwise, the players would be given a charge sheet and a tribunal would decide their fate, he said, adding:
"I can assure you that they will be subjected to the harshest of punishments, if found guilty." Responding to a question over holding of the PSL final in Lahore, the PCB chairman thanked Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Bajwa for offering his support to host the mega event in the country. He said the board is confident of holding the PSL final at the Gaddafi Stadium in March. "We want to hold the final in Lahore. We have thanked the army chief for his support and held important talks. I am confident that we will hold the final in Lahore," he added. He said some foreign players had given assurance to play final in Lahore. To a query, he said members of PCB's Anti-Corruption Unit are very responsible officials who are doing their job efficiently.
