SU launches 15-day plantation drive to turn varsity green, eco-friendly
A 15-day plantation campaign at Sindh University has been launched on Tuesday with the vision to make the varsity green and eco-friendly amid festive sight of students' uproar, cheers and accolades.
Inaugurated jointly by SU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Fateh Muhammad Burfat, MUET vice-chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Aslam Uqaili, Commissioner Hyderabad Qazi Shahid Parvez, Deputy Commissioner Jamshoro Munwar Ali Mahesar and Deans of various faculties, teachers and officers, a large number of students planted their respective share of saplings at different locations of the campus.
Soon after inaugurating the campaign and after planting saplings at Administration Block, the dignitaries proceeded to Arts Faculty Ground where they participated at a ceremony organised by the Bureau of STAGS, University of Sindh. Addressing to students, SU VC Dr Burfat said he considered University of Sindh his Valentine and pledged his love for the Alma Mater to mark the day. He also told students that they were fortunate to be inheritors of as great intellectual luminaries as Shah Abdul Bhittai, Sachal Sarmast, Sami, Iqbal, Ghalib, Rumi and Saadi who all taught and inspired them to love and respect one another and treat all with humility and care.
Pointing towards SU teachers, officers and employees standing on the podium, he informed students that they were all there to serve them, to help them actualize their fullest potential. He insisted upon students to practice ownership of the varsity through their words and deeds.
Dr Burfat told students that the SU had the finest foreign-qualified faculty, the best possible infrastructure and dedicated employees who as a well-knit team would deliver to them. He said he had always been a big believer of teamwork.
"We are all together as a great force - 32,000 you, 1,000 faculty and 4,000 employees; together we will lift this university as the finest of its kind in the world. I will take everyone of you on board. This inclusiveness will bring us glory," he reiterated.
MUET VC Professor Dr Muhammad Aslam Uqaili assuring the VC SU of his unconditional support said that knowledge possessed four dimensions: knowledge transfer, generation, application and integration. "I understand universities must ensure simultaneous happening of these entire four dimensions to fulfill its purpose," he maintained.
