Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) has issued fresh safety guidelines to LPG distributors to avoid unfortunate LPG cylinder blast incidents in future. In case of non-compliance, the Ogra will initiate proceedings against unscrupulous players as per directives of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. In its safety instructions for distributors, the Ogra directed the LPG distributor to check himself/herself each cylinder thoroughly with respect to any physical damage, leakage, etc, prior to handing over the same to the customers.
In addition, the distributor must educate every customer with the safety use of LPG cylinders before handing over the same through posters displayed at distributor premises and circulation of leaflets, brochures among the customers for awareness of the safety measures.
The Ogra management observed that unfortunate LPG incidents are on the higher side these days. The LPG decanters are the root cause in occurrence of such unfortunate incidents since decanters are completely uneducated with respect to safe usage of LPG. Unauthorised and illegal LPG equipment manufacturers, especially cylinders manufacturers, are the major suppliers of these substandard materials to the decanters. The aforesaid mafia has joined hands in every nook and corner of the country and is playing with the lives of general public.
