On the launch of Prime Minister's Green Pakistan Program on Thursday public sectors universities in Lahore launched tree plantation campaign in their campuses. While addressing tree plantation campaign Punjab University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir has said that University was being given the status of green campus and slogan of Green Punjab University would be adopted.
He said, "If we want to ensure sustainable life, we must ensure sustainable environment. He urged the participants to work on new ideas to open new avenues of development." He said that PU administration would extend all-out support in saving the environment.
Earlier, PU VC Professor Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir led a walk to create awareness to save environment and K2-Kings Tourist Association of Pakistan organized a heavy bike rally. The participants were holding placards and banners carrying awareness slogans. The students also presented various skits featuring environment protection related messages. The VC and others also planted sapling in the centre's lawns.
Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) announced to set up state of the art botanical garden in the campus on the occasion of the launching of Prime Minister's Green Pakistan Program. Vice Chancellor LCWU Professor Dr Rukhsana Kausar handed over three kanals land to Botany Department for this purpose and directed head of Department, Dr Farah Khan to start research to develop environmental friendly plants.
Vice Chancellor along with deans and HoDs planted trees in VC Office lawn. An awareness walk was also organized to highlight the needs of greenery. Dr Rukhsana Kausar said that forestry and wild life are two important resources for well being and development of society. She added that conservation of environment, managing climate change and preservation of wildlife habitat for development of a green civilization are very much linked to the forestry and wildlife awareness and practices of a country. She said that Prime Minister's Green Pakistan Programme is appreciable and LCWU will utilize all sources to support it. Dr Kausar directed Botany and Environment Science Departments to step forward to make LCWU a green Campus.
While University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha inaugurated spring tree plantation campaign by planting a sapling in front of the UVAS Business School under the Prime Minister`s Green Pakistan Program.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor said that large number of saplings would be planted on all campuses of UVAS, including Ravi Campus Pattoki, Collage of Veterinary & Animal Sciences Jhang and Para Veterinary Institute Karor Lal Eason Layyah Campus to promote greenery and contribute to green Pakistan. He said that during the campaign, students will also be sensitized about the importance of trees/plants, healthy environment and its protection for coming generations.
