A civil court has stayed election of Lahore Gymkhana Club, scheduled for March 7, and issued notices to the club management for February 10. Aslam Chaudhry, a member of the club contended that the incumbent secretary of the club convened an annual general meeting (AGM) on November 29, 2016 that unanimously decided that an extra ordinary general meeting shall be called to change the existing provisions regarding the tenure of the election and to take up the matter of out of turn memberships made in 2013.
But, the agenda was totally ignored in the extra ordinary meeting of the club.
The plaintiff pointed out that the incumbent body of the club rescheduled the election and two of the members of the election commission resigned expressing concerns over the illegalities committed by the management. Later, he said, the management appointed new members of the election board to conduct the election on March 7. The petitioner asks the court to stay the election process.
