HBL Pakistan Super League is more than just an international tournament; it is Pakistan's only global sporting league. With record-breaking attendance figures and sky-rocketing television ratings, it was a spectacle unheard of in the country. Witnessing the world's finest players, competing in one of the most heated matches ever seen, leading to the crowning of Islamabad United as the Champions. The first edition of the League in itself was purely a labour of love and in tribute to the brave spirit of the nation.
With the HBL PSL, the PCB envisions to launch Pakistan's biggest sports and entertainment product that showcases the best of Pakistan to the outside world. A franchise based T20 Cricket league at its most basic, the HBL PSL is much more than just a cricket tournament. It is a professionally packaged, uniquely Pakistani entertainment venture that aims to bring together the top cricketing talent from around the world, blended with some of Pakistan's most distinctive and colourful flavours to deliver a cricket carnival that celebrates Pakistan and its people.
For the Pakistan Cricket Board, the HBL PSL holds a very unique place as the first successful and profitable Pakistani League. We managed to record a profit of $2.6 million after the first edition, from which $2.2 million was reimbursed to all of the Franchises. The League managed to host international cricketing stars and gained confidence of prominent sponsors and broadcasters. As we inch closer to the second edition, we wanted to pay a special tribute to all our dedicated fans, by hosting the Final of the HBL PSL at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
I am thankful to the millions of fans who joined us on the PSL journey. Our success is a result of their invaluable support.
